With the World Cup done and dusted, India will now look to leave out their disastrous batting performance against New Zealand, something that probably cost them the World Cup. India’s main problem of an unstable middle-order came to the forefront yet again and the upcoming series against Windies provides the team management with the perfect opportunity to rectify some of their errors and possibly, another go at ending the number 4 conundrum.

With the squad being announced, some huge and controversial calls were made. There were many players that deserved an opportunity to be in one of the squads and here at CricTracker, we have prepared a list of 5 such players who deserved to make it to the Indian team (across any of the formats) but just missed the cut. Here we go.

1. Shubman Gill (ODIs)

Shubman Gill is one of the most talented Indian batsmen in the domestic circuit and as the selectors hinted that they are looking to start investing in future but their call to omit Gill from the ODI and the T20I squads has been mind baffling, to say the least.

While Gill was given opportunities against a potent New Zealand attack before the World Cup, he couldn’t really make it count but one cannot blame him as the conditions weren’t exactly for run-minting. Gill requires more opportunities to find himself in the groove and set the field running. His recent IPL is a testament to the incredible amount of talent that he possesses.

Shubman Gill has a bit of both, Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh in his approach towards the way he builds his innings and he could be India’s perfect bet for a future number 4 star but by the looks of it, he will have to wait to get the opportunity that he deserves.
