KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya have been involved in a mini-controversy over the last few days, especially after the episode of the talk-show Koffee With Karan got aired on television and the online platforms. During the show, Pandya made some sexist and misogynist remarks about women, which didn’t go down well with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) by any means.

Later the controversial episode was also needed to be removed from the online forum following outrage from the cricketing fraternity. In the meantime, it has been learned that both the cricketers have been ruled out of the first ODI against Australia, captained by Aaron Finch that is set to be played tomorrow at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) as per reports in Cricket Next.

What’s next for Pandya and Rahul?

Following the remarks, the BCCI sent the duo a show-cause notice on Wednesday, January 9, seeking an explanation within 24 hours. Pandya also took to Twitter and apologised for the matter, but the BCCI didn’t find it adequate enough for them to be forgiven. Later Vinod Rai, the chief of the Committee of Administrators (CoA), mentioned that Pandya and Rahul should be banned.

His colleague and former Indian women’s cricketer Diana Edulji referred the matter to BCCI’s legal cell, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, for advice. On Thursday, a series of emails floated around the BCCI officials as they found it difficult to come to an appropriate conclusion. Today morning, the cell replied to the CoA, mentioning that the two youngsters can be banned after the enquiry.

After the first ODI, India, led by Virat Kohli, would play a couple of more ODIs. Then they would play quite a few limited-overs matches against New Zealand and the Aussies at home. With the World Cup, scheduled to be played from May 30, Pandya and Rahul would hope for the issue to come to an end as the cricket world await the decision on the far-reaching issue.
