Australia completed a whitewash over Sri Lanka as they won the MCG T20I by seven wickets. The visiting team came up with improved performance as they posted 142/6 in their 20 overs thanks to Kusal Perera’s 45-ball 57. David Warner struggled to get going in the first half but gave support to his skipper Aaron Finch who raced to a 25-ball 37. Despite losing three wickets in space of four overs, the home team did not panic as Warner scored an unbeaten 57 to take them past the winning line.

All the statistical highlights from Australia’s comfortable series win over Sri Lanka:

A rare whitewash by the Aussies:

2 – Only the 2nd time Australia won a 3-match T20I series by 3-0 scoreline. Their first such series win came when they defeated England during the 2014 home series. It was incidentally the first instance of a full-member nation getting whitewashed in a 3-match T20I series.

5 – Australia has won all the five T20I matches they played in 2019. This is their joint 2nd longest streak in the T20I format. The Aussies’ longest T20I streak is of six matches which came during the 2010 WT20.

A series to remember for the Australian batsmen:

82.66 – Australia’s average in this series of 82.66 is the highest for any team in a T20I series/tournament. (Min: 3 innings batted) Papua New Guinea had an average of 75.75 during the East Asia-Pacific Region Final for the T20 World Cup Qualifiers held in March this year.

6 – Australian team lost as few as six wickets in this series; the fewest any team lost in a T20I series/tournament. (Min: 3 innings) Pakistan lost only seven wickets during the home T20I series against the West Indies last year.

The Warner’s series:

1 – David Warner became the first opening batsman to remain unbeaten in all matches of a T20I series. (Min: 3 matches)

1 – David Warner also became the first player to record unbeaten 50+ scores in three straight T20I innings.

217 – The 217 runs Warner has scored in this series are the most by any player in a T20I tournament/series without getting dismissed.

List of records David Warner created during the T20I series

Finch and Warner go past Watson:

85 – Number of sixes for Aaron Finch in the T20I format; the most by any player for Australia. David Warner is next on this list with 84 maximums. Prior to this game, Shane Watson was on the top with 83 sixes along with warner while Finch was on 82 T20I sixes.

Warner joins Gilchrist:

100 – The lone six that David Warner hit during this game was his 100th on the Australian soil in International cricket. Warner thus became only the 2nd player to smash 100 maximums in Australia in all Internationals. Adam Gilchrist was the first to do so having struck 105 sixes in his career at home.

More milestones for Warner:

1 – David Warner became the first player to amass 2000 runs in the T20I cricket for Australia when he struck a six while batting on 43. Earlier, when on 37, Davey completed 9000 runs in the T20 format and became the first Australian to do so.
