Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been undergoing recovery from a finger injury he sustained quite a while back that required a surgery. He had to leave the Bangladesh team through the Asia Cup as playing with an injury worsened the infection. This has also put his participation in the UAE T20 League in doubt, which is scheduled between 23rd of December to 1st January.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is being really wary about the availability of its key players ahead of next year’s World Cup. Since Shakib has submitted a No Objection Certificate request for the tournament in UAE, it remains to be seen if BCB grants him the permission. The all-rounder had earlier not been included in the side for the Zimbabwe tour of Bangladesh.

Decision will be made on Shakib’s participation in a day or two

The BCB chief Nazmul Hassan had earlier asked for proper scrutiny on the player’s fitness ahead of next year’s World Cup in England. Hence, Shakib’s participation is highly dependent on how well he has recovered. The Board’s media chairman Jalal Yunus stated that a decision is likely to be taken in the next couple of days.

“Shakib Al Hasan has applied for the NOC for the T20 tournament, but a decision is yet to be made. It will be taken in a day or two,” BCB’s media committee chairman Jalal Yunus was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.

Bangladesh have another upcoming series at home against Windies. The Tigers are slated to play two Tests, three One-Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals. Shakib is already running against time to regain fitness for the Caribbeans. The all-rounder is currently undergoing rehabilitation after he underwent a surgery last month. On the other hand, another important player in Tamim Iqbal has been advised three weeks rest before he can resume training. In these events, it’s highly unlikely that BCB will grant Shakib a NOC.
