Amidst lots of hearsays and havoc, the name of India’s head coach has finally been announced. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), on Thursday, re-appointed Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. The 3-member committee, which consisted of the likes of Kapil Dev, Anshuma Gaekwad, and Shantha Rangaswamy addressed the media on Friday and revealed the much-awaited name.

Kapil Dev Dev-led CAC had shortlisted the name of a total of six candidates, out of which, 5 of them were interviewed by the team. After all the procedures, the committee eventually announced that the ongoing coach, Ravi Shastri, will continue the coaching duties for another two years i.e. the 2021 T20I World Cup.

In the process, CAC had ranked the candidates based on their skill-sets and requirements. Ravi Shastri topped this list, whilst New Zealand’s former coach, Mike Hesson was the runner-up. Tom Moody came 3rd in the list.

“We have unanimously decided to appoint Ravi Shastri as the (head) coach of the Indian cricket team as you all were expecting,” said Kapil Dev, the chairman of the committee, post the meeting. Later on, he revealed that the panel also consulted the Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who suggested Ravi Shastri’s name as well.

This marks Shastri’s 4th stint with the Indian team, as he has served for the team thrice before. Back in 2007, he was named the Cricket Manager for the Bangladesh tour. He also served as the team director from 2014 to 2017. Post this, the 55-year old was appointed as the head coach of the side.

Shastri gets trolled

However, the CAC along with Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli had to receive a lot of criticism from the aficionados and pundits. The fans think that Shastri is a weak person for the post and the coaching duties required a strong personality like Tom Moody or Mike Hesson. Nonetheless, the 55-year old kept all these things aside and posted a dialogue of the famous Indian TV series Sacred Games on his Facebook account.
