We learned a few days ago that former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is trying to learn a good bit of Tamil as he said so while attending a Tamil Nadu Premier League game. Now, MS Dhoni has also disclosed why he rarely answers phone calls. The stories have been going on for some time and the man himself cleared the air finally.
Dhoni said he doesn’t use phones too much and believes that it is something that has to be used in the right manner. He admitted that there is a big divide between him and technology also touched upon some of the stories that he doesn’t pick up phone calls.
Dhoni and technology
“Me and technology, there is a big divide. I don’t use phones so much and there are a lot of stories I don’t pick up phones. But I do use technology as well. When I am shown some videos, you wonder if I am playing it right. Technology has to be used in right way,” India’s World Cup-winning captain told India Today.
Last month, there were also rumours about Dhoni’s impending retirement from international cricket after he was seen asking the umpires for the match ball at the end of the third ODI against England at Leeds. Since the wicketkeeper-batsman own batting form has come under question and his display with the bat left much to be desired, the speculation was all the more rife.
However, India’s head coach Ravi Shastri and Dhoni himself justified why he’d taken the ball. The 37-year-old said he took the ball to facilitate the team’s plan on getting reverse swing. It was a buyable logic since Indian bowlers were expensive at the death and any movement they can get from the old ball is an added advantage. Also, the fact that the World Cup will be played in England makes understanding the conditions that much more important.
Dhoni, who retired from Test cricket at the end of 2014 stepped down from the limited-overs captaincy in January 2017. He will don the blue jersey during India’s next ODI commitments in the Asia Cup in the UAE next month.
