Two sides with contrasting starts to the inaugural MSL will clash on Wednesday as Durban Heat play hosts to the on-song Nelson Mandela Bay Giants. The Giants are coming into this game after an embarrassing defeat in the hands of Jozi Stars whilst Durban too had a horrible outing against the Paarl Rocks.
Nevertheless, form has been on Giants’ side as they registered four wins in their seven games to stay second in the table. The only disappointment for them would be the drastic dip in their net run rate, which was flying high before their horrendous 81-run defeat to the Stars.
This game will be crucial for both sides who are looking to cover up some lost ground. For Durban, it is a lot more important to win as their playoff aspirations can take a huge jolt with a defeat here. All their star players will have to pull their socks up and make a difference on the match day.
Pitch and weather
There were showers in Durban on Tuesday and the forecast suggests it would be a cloudy day again on Wednesday. The fast bowlers will feast on the cold conditions but given the sun comes out and dries the conditions a bit, a high-scoring game might be on the cards.
The experience of Morne van Wyk coming into the picture is very important for Albie Morkel’s side. They have a pretty decent middle order with David Miller, Khaya Zondo and Heinrich Klaasen present but for some reason, they have failed to capitalize. Vernon Philander and Keshav Maharaj will continue to lead the bowling attack with Kyle Abbott, Brandon Mavuta and Tladi Bokako assisting them.

Nelson Mandela Bay Giants
Skipper JJ Smuts will continue with the same line-up despite a major hiccup against Jozi. He will open alongside Marco Marais with Ben Duckett, Heino Kuhn, Rudi Second and Christiaan Jonker coming in the middle-order. Junior Dala and Chris Morris will be their main men in the fast bowling attack who will combine with the spin brilliance of Imran Tahir and Aaron Phangiso. Sisanda Magala and Smuts can also roll their arm if needed.
