ARCS Andheri will lock horns with North Mumbai Panthers in the first semi-final of the T20 Mumbai League 2019 at the Wankhede Stadium. Andheri finished the league stage at the second spot in the eight-team competition after winning 4 of their five games. The Panthers, on the other hand, progressed ahead of the league stage and made it to the last four after winning three out of five games.

Both the teams enter the do-or-die contest on the back of wins in the final league game. Andheri beat Eagle Thane Strikers by 12 runs in their previous outing. A fine bowling show had helped Andheri defend a modest total. Asked to bat first, ARCS finished on 154 for 8 despite their skipper Kevin Almeida and Iqbal Abdulla’s fifties. Andheri were 120 for 2 at the end of the 15th over but failed to finish strongly. The score, however, turned out to be more than enough in the end as the bowlers restricted Strikers to 142 for 8.

On the other hand, the Panthers thrashed Triumphs Knights MNE in their final league game. The Panthers had thoroughly dominated the contest to win it by 44 runs. Put in to bat first, the Panthers had finished their innings on 153 for 6 with Sairaj Patil’s 59 being the top score. The bowlers then did even better to restrict the Knights to a paltry 109 for 7 to send their team to the semifinal.

Andheri and Panthers, nonetheless, have already met once this season. On the occasion, Andheri had registered a thumping 6-wicket win over the Panthers. After restricting the Panthers to 160, Andheri chased it down without much trouble. But with both the team in fine form now, the upcoming match promises to be a cracker of a competition.

Pitch Report

Going by the current trend, anything marginally above 150 is turning out to be a defendable total on the Wankhede pitch. While the iconic stadium traditionally produces high-scoring games, the T20 Mumbai League is turning out to be an exception. But batting second still looks the better option especially in night games when dew can play a big role in deciding the outcome.

Weather Conditions

As far as the weather is concerned, there is no reason to worry as there are no predictions of rain. The temperature will be around 30-degree Celsius throughout the match. The humidity, however, can make for an unpleasant experience as it will hover in the late 70s.
