Jimmy Neesham was only a hit away from helping New Zealand win their first World Cup in the super over. But destiny had some cruel plans for him in store. The Kiwis fell agonisingly short in the final against England and their dream was shattered. The all-rounder, however, received a lot of consolation on Twitter especially from the Indian fans after the loss.
But one of the Indian fans, rather Dinesh Karthik’s die-hard fan, tagged Neesham on Twitter quoting an old tweet from Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals). Karthik and Neesham both played for the same franchise and they were attending an event in 2014. The fan quoted the tweet for some strange reason and cleared that he hates Neesham for taking Karthik’s catch in the World Cup 2019 semi-final.
Dinesh Karthik came out to bat at number five in the 240-run chase against New Zealand in Manchester with India tottering at 5/3. He took his time to get off the mark and looked confident after some time. But Jimmy Neesham took a blinder of a catch to send him back on six runs off 25 deliveries to leave India reeling at 24/4.
Karthik couldn’t do much in the couple of opportunities he got in the World Cup and has now lost his place in the ODI squad now and hasn’t been picked in the T20I side for the West Indies tour now.
Neesham reacts to playing for Delhi
Jimmy Neesham is very much active on social media, especially on Twitter and he is still recovering from the heartbreak in the final. He is keeping himself busy on Twitter again with his witty responses and when the Karthik fan tagged him saying that he hates Neesham, the Kiwi cricketer was once again at his best ignoring him.
He was thrilled to see his picture five years ago and felt it was a lifetime ago that he was playing for the Delhi franchise. “God this feels like a lifetime ago,” Neesham reacted to the tweet. As far as Jimmy Neesham’s IPL career is concerned, he played only in four matches and last featured in the tournament back in 2014 season for the Delhi franchise.
His exploits in the 2019 World Cup though might earn him a serious bid now and it will be interesting to see which franchise shows interest in the Kiwi cricketer.
